Pay your Council Tax

Ways to pay your Council Tax. Choose the best method to suit you.

Direct Debit  Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay, simply complete and submit this online Council Tax - Direct Debit Mandate

Set up a direct debit over the telephone by calling 01626 215 000. You will need your:

  • Council Tax reference number
  • Address
  • Bank sort code and account number
  • Name as shown on your cheque book

Your Direct Debit instalments will be set up as soon as possible.  In accordance with the Direct Debit Guarantee scheme we will give you 10 working days' notice before the first instalment is taken out of your bank account.

This means the start date of your instalments may be delayed by one month. You can either make your first payment online, or we will spread the balance over the remaining months.

Direct Internet Payment Bank Transfer

Straight from your bank to ours - sort code 30-84-67, account no 55853468, and quote your 9 digit Council Tax reference number.

To make sure your payment gets credited as quickly as possible, could you please enter your account reference number exactly as it appears.

Please do not include any spaces, dashes or text (for example please don't write 'Ref', 'Council Tax', or insert any initials.)

Correct Example:  000000000    Incorrect Examples: Ref  000 000 000 or 000-000-000

Entering your correct reference number means we can get your money straight to your account without delay, and avoids us having to contact you again.

Pay your Council Tax online by Debit and Credit Card

Please note that the council will levy a surcharge of 1.7% on the total value of any payment made with a credit card. However no surcharge will be levied on payments made with a debit card. 

Automated Telephone Payments System

You can also pay your Council Tax using our Automated Telephone Payments System
To use this service you will need:

  • touchtone telephone
  • reference number
  • debit or credit card

You can also pay your Council Tax, Business Rates, Car Park Fines and other Council Invoices using our Automated Telephone Payments System (ToneSmart).  To use this service you must have a touchtone telephone, the reference number and your debit or credit card handy.

At the Post Office or via a PayPoint outlet

 
Post Office PayPoint

You can pay your Council Tax at any Post Office or PayPoint outlet using the barcode printed on the front of your current Council Tax bill.

Standing Order

You will have to make arrangements directly with your Bank each year. Payment can take up to seven days to reach Teignbridge District Council after leaving your bank.
