Q. What is the rateable value of my business premises?

A.

Q. My lease / tenancy agreement includes Rates. Will you send the bill to my landlord?

A. No. The Council must, by law, bill and recover Business Rate from the occupier of the premises. If you pass your bill to the landlord and he / she does not make payment, the Council has no alternative than to take recovery action against you.




Q. I believe my bill is too high, can I do anything about it?

A. Yes, you can appeal to the Valuation Office. However, you should continue to make payment of your Business Rate until the outcome of your appeal is known and you receive a revised bill. Q. I am moving premises, what do I need to do?

A. If you are moving premises we will require the details of your move so that we can update our records and issue a new bill. You can call our Customer Services advisors on 01626 215000 or complete the online form. Click on Moving Premises on the Related Pages Section.




Q. I want to pay by Direct Debit. What do I do and do I have to renew this each year?

A. You can set up a Direct Debit over the phone. Simply telephone our Customer Services advisors on 01626 215000. You will receive a new bill to confirm your Direct Debit instalments and this will remain in force until you cancel the arrangement. You do not have to renew your Direct Debit each year. Q. How do I raise a Standing Order?

A. You need to do this directly with your bank. You will be asked for details of the Council's bank which is Co-operative Bank PLC, 242 High Street, Exeter, Devon, EX4 3QB, Sort Code 089027, Account Number 61087473

Q. I cannot make payment of the instalments on the date shown on my bill, what should I do?

Q. I have received a Summons for non payment of my Business Rates - What should I do?

A. Make payment of the total amount shown on the summons including the costs BEFORE the court date. If you are unable to make payment in full, then contact us on 01626 215000 to discuss the matter.
