Environmental Health
The aim of the Environmental Health Department is to protect and improve the health and well being of the public. The department is split into a number of services including food safety, pollution control, health and safety, pest control, air quality and health promotion.

Consultations
The Environmental Health Service is committed to listening to the views of our customers and developing well managed services. As part of this we undertake a number of consultations which are detailed here. -
Contaminated Land
There are currently no entries in the formal Teignbridge Register of Contaminated Land. However, there are a number of sites that are probably polluted. The long industrial history of the UK has caused areas of land to become contaminated in various ways over many years. The ground around old factory and chemical sites, for example, may contain substances which can, in some cases, present a risk to people, animals, vegetation, rivers and streams, buildings and the groundwater system from which we obtain our drinking water. -

Our role is to improve and enforce standards of food hygiene and health and safety in food premises within Teignbridge. -

Health Promotion
Work is carried out in partnership with other agencies and organisations to deliver health promotion campaigns and projects. -
Industrial Air Pollution
Teignbridge District Council is responsible for the regulation of certain industrial processes that have the potential to cause air pollution. We are currently responsible for approximately 50 processes across the District ranging from waste oil burners to Animal Remains incinerators. -

Port Health
Teignbridge District Council is designated as a Port Health Authority for the port of Teignmouth. -
Radioactive Substances
Under the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 certain premises are required to register with the Environment Agency that they keep or use radioactive substances. They also require an authorisation to dispose of the waste. -

Report a Smoky Vehicle
Smoky vehicles pollute the air. Next time you see a smoky bus or lorry blowing smoke continuously for several seconds or more, you can do something about it. Take down the vehicle details and report to the Smoky Vehicle Hotline which is operated by the Government's Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA). They will contact the vehicle operator and investigate the report. -
Smoke Nuisance
The Environmental Control team have powers to deal with smoke nuisance from bonfires, domestic chimneys and commercial chimneys. -
