Asbestos Management
There is a duty to manage asbestos, which has been made under Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos at work Regulations 2006.
Teignbridge District Council owns various types of buildings, from Sports Centres to Public Conveniences. Generally, buildings built before the 1980's are more likely to have some materials that could contain asbestos.
All Teignbridge owned buildings have been inspected by specialist asbestos surveyors, and reports compiled. This Asbestos survey information, has been entered into an electronic database which is regularly used and updated.
Where Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM's) have been recorded in a building, we have a duty to manage the asbestos.
In such buildings, we ensure that managers or the person in control, have a copy of the Asbestos survey and are aware of the location of ACM's. We encourage the production of a "Management Plan" document, which helps the person in control understand their duty to manage ACM's.
Asbestos containing materials within Teignbridge buildings, have been risk assessed. This procedure lists the most vulnerable ACM's, and provides an evaluation system. Teignbridge has now commenced an Asbestos removal and encapsulation programme.
