Dawlish Community Information Centre (The Open Daw)
Our aim is to guide residents to sources of information of various kinds, and to enable them to meet with community representatives who may be of help to them.
Welcome to The Open Daw Web page.
The Dawlish Community Information Centre, or The Open Daw as it is known, came into being in June 2005. From small beginnings, it is now a registered charity with its own co-ordinator and is visited by a large number of residents and visitors every week.
Situated in the foyer of the Methodist Church in Brunswick Place, we are open every weekday morning from 10 to 12. Sue Hill is our co-ordinator, and with her band of volunteers, is always there with a friendly listening ear and a nice cup of tea.
As well as her knowledge of sources of information, Sue also arranges an ongoing timetable of visiting experts from the area and from further away. This includes regular visits from the local Police, Community Wardens, Town Councillors, Volunteer Bureau, Solicitors and many more. You can also join the 'Plough and Share' Credit Union.
There is a quiet room available for private discussion. This service is completely free. Click on Diary Dates to find out who is available this week.
The Open Daw welcomes local support groups who run Coffee Mornings for their chosen charities. The Dawlish Museum and the Local History Group have items on display and sale on Thursday and Friday respectively. We also have our own sales of books, CDs and DVDs and a wide range of Fairtrade goods are on sale every day.
We have a notice board in the foyer where you are welcome to display news of coming local events.
So why not give us a visit, we are easy to find at the centre of town, just two minutes from the Waterfowl enclosure. You are assured of a warm welcome, hot and cold drinks, sales, and of course a chance to tap into some very useful information.
