TS Canonteign - Teign Valley Unit 609
TS Canonteign - Teign Valley Unit 609 of HM Sea Cadet Corps. Teignmouth Detachment are hosting a major parade of the Devon Corps supported by Regular and Reserve detachments of the Royal Navy through Teignmouth on Sunday 20th of April 2008 at 1.30 pm starting from the Den and making it's way to the Town Church of St. James the Less.
The new Unit is dedicated to the memory of Admiral Sir Edward Pellew, first Viscount Exmouth of Canonteign and the Pellew family, the present Viscount; Lord Exmouth is the Units patron.
The owners of Canonteign Falls estate situated in the Teign Valley and open to the public support the Unit. Previously the Pellew country estate acquired by Admiral Pellew he preferred to live at his town house set in parkland overlooking the Teign estuary, now the home of Teignmouth Town Council
" Bitton House".
The Units drill hall named after Pellews favourite ship "HMS Indefatigable" used in the series of books by C.S Forester about his fictional hero "Horatio Hornblower" and who paid homage to Pellew by making him "Hornblowers" mentor, stands in the grounds of Bitton Park between

Sea Cadets A nationwide voluntary youth organization run by enthusiastic adult volunteers. Open to young people aged 10 Junior to 18 Senior our role is to provide personal development opportunities and support in a maritime context for children and young persons. The Corps is aligned to the Royal Navy but learning skills are developed from all the sea services. If you want fun, friendship, adventure and learning skills for life, undertaken in a safe disciplined environment based on waterborne activities contact us to see what we can offer. For older Cadets 15+ we offer the opportunity to obtain BTEC Diplomas in a number of training programmes through the "College of the Sea" http://www.marine-society.org/provision.aspx. Children or young people with special needs are encouraged to join in, the Corps is inclusive and the local team welcome anyone who wants to be involved with the activities we can offer. We are growing in Teignbridge, in future it is planned to extend our activities to a number of Towns in the Teign Valley it is hoped that these detachments will eventually include Marine Cadets.
Please note: Unlike other Service Cadet organisations the Sea Cadet Corps are independent charitable groups under an "umbrella" organisation run and administered locally by a group of trustees who work closely with uniformed staff to raise funds to pay for local activities, provide accommodation and logistical support, we would welcome any financial assistance you or your organisation can offer.
