4. How to appeal your rateable value

New Rateable Value (RV) appeals procedure from April 2017

A new business rate appeals system is being introduced in England from 1 April 2017.

It is intended that there will be a staged appeal process, to Check, Challenge and Appeal rateable values with the Valuation Office, however Local Authorities and the Valuation Office are waiting for confirmation from the government of the new appeal process.

The current business rate bill must be paid whilst any appeal is outstanding, you will be reimbursed if the appeal is successful, any change in rateable value can be backdated to when the Valuation Office agree a date.

Please see Valuation office website www.gov.uk/voa/revaluation for any updates.
