7. Additional Restrictions Grant (5 Nov to 2 Dec)

The Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) provides local councils with grant funding to support:

  • businesses that were required to close (between 5 Nov and 2 Dec) but which are not registered for business rates.
  • businesses (rated and non-rated) that did not have to close but which were severely impacted by the national restrictions (between 5 Nov and 2 Dec).

Businesses that were required to close but which ARE registered for business rates are not eligible for this scheme, as they are instead eligible for the Local Restrictions Support Grant (C) scheme.

The list of business types which must close for this period includes businesses providing non-essential retail; personal care facilities; hospitality venues and leisure/entertainment.

A business that has been severely impacted will have to provide evidence of this. Our FAQ document explains what ‘severely impacted’ means and gives examples of how applicants can provide this evidence.

Businesses that have been severely impacted by Tier 2 restrictions will be eligible for the Local Restrictions Support Grant (O) scheme, due to go live in early January 2021.

You cannot claim if:

  • you are eligible for or have already received a Local Restrictions Support Grant (C)
  • you primarily operate and trade outside of Teignbridge
  • you are using the grant to substitute lost wages or to be used as a wage supplement
  • the business was in administration, insolvent or a striking-off notice had been made on or prior to the 5 November 2020
  • you will exceed the limit for state aid under de minimus and the temporary framework
  • you are applying for a property which is advertised solely online through “home sharing” websites such as Airbnb

Every claim will be subject to anti-fraud assessment and account verification. Attempts to fraudulently claim public grant funding will result in funds being recovered and legal action being taken in every instance.
