South West Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme
A rolling five/six year programme for the South West started in April 2006 and is funded through grant from DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). The programme currently in Phase 4 and is led by Teignbridge.
South West Coastal Monitoring (previously known as Plymouth Coastal Observatory) has a team of coastal scientists that are based within the University of Plymouth.
The programme collects, analyses, and publishes the following types of data:
- Hydrodynamic - wave, tide and weather (meteorological) data
- Bathymetric surveys (sea bed mapping)
- Topographic beach surveys
- Aerial photography
- LiDAR height data
- Ecological habitat mapping
- Coastal asset data

The South West data is hosted on the National Coastal website which contains all the data collected by all the Regional Coastal Monitoring Programmes.
