South West Strategic Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme
A rolling five year programme for the South West started in April 2006 and is funded through grant aid from DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). The programme, led by Teignbridge;
- Hydrodynamic - Waves and Tides Monitoring
- Bathymetric Surveys
- Topographic Beach Surveys
- Aerial Photography
- LiDAR Surveys
- Ecological Habitat Mapping
A regional data centre known as the Plymouth Coastal Observatory has been established within the University of Plymouth to collect, analyse and publish the data being obtained.

Strong links have been established with the Channel Coastal Observatory (CCO) in Southampton who are managing the data collected by all of the Regional Coastal Monitoring Programmes. The South West data will be published on the CCO website.
