4. Memorials
Memorials can only be placed on graves or cremation plots where the Right of Burial has been purchased. If there are no living owners of the Right of Burial, the Rights will need to be transferred. This is also the case if there is a memorial that needs to be refixed following a burial in a grave or cremation plot.
An approved monumental stone mason will guide you through the types of memorial and sizes permitted. They will submit an application to the Cemetery Office on your behalf. There is a permit fee payable.
There is a height restriction of 3ft for memorials. Kerbed graves are not permitted. Contact the Cemetery Office for a copy of the Cemeteries Guidance Notes if you require further information. The safety and maintenance of memorials and any repairs that might become necessary are the responsibility of the grave owners and not the Council. Monumental masons can arrange memorial maintenance agreements and can also provide insurance for the protection of memorials against vandalism etc.
