Green Spaces user consultation response 2024

The disrtict's Green Spaces are comprised of countryside parks, town parks, SANGS (Suitable Alternative Natural Green Spaces) such as Dawlish Countryside Park, and nature reserves. The districts nature reserves include a wealth of diverse wildlife habitats such a woodlands, heathland, reedbed, wetland, meadows.

Green Spaces are managed between our ground’s maintenance contractors Idverde, and our Countryside Rangers, who are supported throughout each year by dedicated volunteers.

The 2024 consultation took place from 1 May to 1 October.

We asked the reasons why people visit a green space, and the most popular responses were to relax, observe wildlife, meet friends, and to exercise.

The results informed us that 87% of visitors feel safe there. 67% of those completing the survey find them a welcoming place to visit. The majority of visitors go to a green space daily or weekly.

62% find our signage informative. This is an increase from 2023, and to continue our efforts to improve further, we will be installing more wildlife information boards at some sites during 2025.

We use the survey results information to support our evidence for the Green Flag Award process, and we are pleased to say we have maintained 4 flags at 4 sites again in 2024: Courtenay Park in Newton Abbot, Decoy Country Park in Newton Abbot, The Den in Teignmouth, and Homeyards Botanical Gardens in Shaldon.

Thank you to everyone that took part in the survey.
