Flag raising honours Armed Forces
Year 10 prefects from Newton Abbot College travelled to Old Forde House in Newton Abbot on Monday 19 June to witness the raising of the Armed Forces Flag to commemorate Armed Forces Week.
The event saw students joining invited guests and local dignitaries including the Mayor of Newton Abbot and borough representatives of Teignbridge to watch the flag being raised in honour of both serving and veteran members of the armed forces.
Teignbridge District Council’s Chairman, Cllr Timothy Golder said:
"Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for all of us to pay tribute to members of Her Majesty's services, those who are currently serving as well as veterans. I was particularly pleased to welcome representatives of the Royal British Legion and the Royal Naval Association, along with students from Newton Abbot College, to Forde House for our Flag Raising ceremony".
Head of House, Colin Gill, was proud to attend with the College students:
“As an ex-member if the British Forces currently working at Newton Abbot College, I feel honoured to be able to take part in such a prestigious local event where the local community recognises the Armed Forces for the work they do. It was an honour for the College and prefect representatives to participate in this event to represent the College community on such an important day.”
