Time running out to nominate in Sports and Community Awards
Time is running out for nominations to be made for Teignbridge District Council’s glittering Sports and Community Awards.
With 13 categories to choose from, including team and individual prizes, the deadline for nominations is midnight Friday 22 September. Those short-listed will then be invited to this year’s Sports Personality Awards, sponsored by Kitsons Solicitors, held on Friday 1 December at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Dawlish Warren.
This year the event includes a number of new categories to recognise, reward and celebrate what makes Teignbridge such a thriving sporting community through volunteering, business, and charitable organisations.
In a first for the Awards, the new People’s Champion 2017 award will be decided by an online vote taken through the night on social media. Teignbridge Sports and Community Awards has become one of the largest events of its kind. It recognises and rewards a wide range of athletes, teams, volunteers, coaches and unsung heroes for their hard work and dedication to sport, health and physical activity in many local communities across the district.
Teignbridge is proud of their long-term commitment in providing opportunities for healthy active lifestyles, outlined in the Council’s Ten Year Strategy. With such a varied offering of leisure facilities, open spaces and events accessible to communities, the Council is keen to provide an array of inclusive leisure and sports facilities that benefit local people.

"Every year we seek to recognise the outstanding achievements of teams and individuals who go that extra step towards achieving success in their chosen sporting activity. Whether it's through their efforts on the field or by working behind the scenes we believe that their efforts and results deserve the public recognition that our Annual Awards seeks to give.
"We have seen how their achievements have encouraged greater numbers to be involved in sporting activity and thereby gain the benefits that this provides.
"Involvement in sports is a key element in our Teignbridge strategy because of the benefits it brings to residents. We believe in facilitating more involvement through the support and investments we make and this is a cornerstone of Teignbridge's long term plans.
"We work together with local businesses to make our Awards programme a success. We thank all of those involved and look forward to a hugely enjoyable event."
James Cross, Managing Partner at Kitsons Solicitors said:
