Salary:£42,806-£44,697 Grade 39

This is a permanent position working 37 hours per week.

For this role:

We have an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join our Democratic Services Team. You will be mostly office based at Forde House within Teignbridge District Council.

What you'll be doing:

You will manage and ensure the provision of a high quality service supporting the Council’s political processes and elected Councillors. You will develop a comprehensive service offer, working closely with Councillors and the Senior Management of the Council. Establishing a training and development programme for Councillors will be a feature of the role, as will the ongoing monitoring and review of the Council’s constitution.

You will also undertake the role of Deputy Monitoring Officer, supporting the Monitoring Officer to ensure good governance, and that the constitution and standards are upheld and adhered to.

As Deputy Monitoring Officer you will support town and parish Councils with issues of standards and governance.

Who we're looking for:

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • the ability to work with a range of stakeholders to ensure the effective operation of the Council’s political decision making processes
  • experience of working within a Democratic Services role, advising and supporting elected Councillors
  • a commitment to service improvement and achieving the corporate objectives of the Council
  • personal integrity and the ability to act as adviser to other organisations
