What happens if you don't pay your Council Tax?

2. What happens if you do not pay?

If you miss a Council Tax payment, we will send you a reminder notice. It will give you seven days to bring your instalments up to date.

To instantly bring your account up to date, please make a payment online.

If you pay within the time limit, but fall behind again, we will send you a second reminder.

If you do not pay the full amount stated on a first or second reminder, within seven days, you will lose your right to pay your Council Tax bill by instalments and the whole amount will become immediately due.

Ignoring or failing to keep to your instalment plan will have consequences and is not worth taking the risk.

Final notice

A final notice means that you must pay the total amount outstanding for the rest of the financial year within seven days.

Failure to pay the balance in full will result in recovery action being taken through the Magistrates Court.

To avoid reaching this stage, it is important that you contact us as soon as possible if you are having problems making your payment.
