1. What help is available?

Council Tax Support (also known as Council Tax Reduction) is a local means tested scheme for people on a low income to help them pay their council tax. You may be able to get Council Tax Support if you are on other benefits, work part-time or work full-time on a low income.

You must be liable to pay council tax to apply for Council Tax Support.

If you receive Universal Credit it does not include help with council tax so you must also claim council tax support.

To see if you apply for council tax support, please use our Benefit Calculator.

If you/your partner are self employed the income we use to calculate your entitlement might be different from your accounting figures. This is because our council tax reduction scheme includes a minimum income floor.
