Council Tax Support Fund

The Government announced a Council Tax Support fund to help support working and pension age people on a low income who receive Council Tax Reduction on 1 April 2023 and have a charge on their Council Tax account for 2023/24.

The government scheme allows for an award of up to £25 to all qualifying working and pension age residents. This does not include residents who only receive a discount or exemption, e.g. single person’s discount.

We have decided to make an additional payment of up to £15 from the discretionary part of the scheme. This means a one-off payment of up to £40 will be automatically credited to your 2023/24 account and shows as a credit of “Council Tax Discretionary relief” on your Council Tax bill.

If you are awarded 100% Council Tax Reduction and have no charge to pay, then no support will be possible. It can only be applied when there is an outstanding Council Tax charge on the account for 2023/24.
