Environmental permitting (PPC)

We are responsible for ensuring specific industrial processes hold an Environmental Permit. Some permits are issued by the council whilst others are issued by the Environment Agency.

  • A1 Installations are regulated by the Environment Agency and the permit conditions must cover pollution to air, land and water. The permit may also cover energy efficiency, site restoration, noise, odour, waste minimisation, accident prevention and heat and vibrations.
  • A2 Installations are regulated by the Council and the permit conditions must cover pollution to air, land and water. The permit may also cover energy efficiency, site restoration, noise, odour, waste minimisation, accident prevention and heat and vibrations.
  • B Installations are regulated by the Council and the permit conditions will only cover emissions to air.

Regulators must set permit conditions based on the use of the best available techniques (BAT) to control pollution.

In Teignbridge we have a range of installations which are regulated by use. These include petrol stations, vehicle re-sprayers and clay processing.

If you believe that your industrial process may require a permit, please contact the Environmental Control team for further information including application forms and details of the types of activities covered.

The fees and charges which will be due are set by national government and can be viewed on the links below:
