1. Check the rating of a food business
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme was developed to provide information on food hygiene standards to help customers choose where to eat out or shop.
The hygiene standards during inspections are rated on a scale ranging from zero '0' (urgent improvement necessary) to a top rating of five '5' (very good).
Businesses given a rating include cafes, restaurants, takeaways, sandwich shops, pubs, hotels, supermarkets, mobile premises and other food outlets.
Eligible businesses are issued a sticker after inspection and are encouraged to display it, but are not currently legally obliged to do so.
