1. About asbestos

Asbestos is responsible for the death of around 5000 workers each year.

Asbestos can still be present in buildings built or refurbished before the year 2000. If materials containing asbestos are disturbed or damaged, fibres are released into the air which, if inhaled, can cause serious long-term or even fatal diseases.

Asbestos is only dangerous when disturbed, therefore do not remove it unnecessarily. If it is safely managed it does not present a health risk.
