Website maintenance

Our website, planning applications and committees will be unavailable on Saturday 5 October from 9am to 6pm. We apologise for this disruption and thank you for your patience.

Rough sleeping

Let us know about a rough sleeper.

We are committed to trying to end rough sleeping in the district. We offer a homeless application to anyone rough sleeping and temporary accommodation where possible. We often use our discretionary powers to offer temporary accommodation to rough sleepers who may not fulfil the legal requirements for accommodation. This is assessed on a case by case basis and the applicant must be willing to engage with services to help them move on from temporary accommodation.

Outreach

Our Outreach team work closely with Together Drug and Alcohol Services, Mental Health teams and other specialist services to engage with rough sleepers and try to find solutions to help them secure accommodation and maintain it. This might be help to return home, a move into a tenancy or a supported accommodation placement. Our Outreach team also offer support to claim benefits, to obtain bank accounts and to access services like food banks.

We also have special temporary accommodation provisions in place when we are experiencing severe weather. This may be freezing temperatures, risk of flooding or other potentially dangerous weather conditions.
