Things to consider when renting

8. Suitability - condition of the property

All homes need to meet certain standards to make sure they are not a risk to your health and safety. The majority of landlord’s provide decent well maintained homes and most tenants are happy with the service they receive from their landlords. However, all properties contain potentially hazardous things like unsafe stairs or electrical sockets.

You need to consider if the property is in good condition and that any hazards in the home can be managed by you and your family. Can all of your family use stairs and steps? Can all of your family use the bath/shower? Do you need adaptations to make the home fit for your needs? Will the landlord permit these adaptations?
