Apply for a personal licence

Information on Personal Licences

  • You can only hold one personal licence at a time.
  • Not everyone supplying alcohol needs a personal licence.
  • Each sale of alcohol must be approved by a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) who holds a personal licence. For example, a sales assistant doesn’t need a licence, but the DPS, like a manager, must have one.
  • Personal licences last indefinitely unless you give them up, they are suspended, revoked, or a court orders otherwise. You don’t need to renew your personal licence anymore, as this requirement was removed by the Deregulation Act 2015.
  • If you move or change your name, contact us to update your licence. We remain your licensing authority even if you move away.
