Latest update on Avian influenza (bird flu)

Defra has now announced that an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) has been declared across the whole of England to mitigate the risk of the disease spreading. This comes alongside the sad news that a number of black swans in Dawlish have died, and were tested positive with the H5N8 strain of the virus.

Poultry keepers should familiarise themselves with Defra’s avian flu advice.

Please report dead wild birds to the Defra helpline on 03459 33 55 77.
