Grants available to improve home heating
As winter beckons residents in Teignbridge are being encouraged to take advantage of new funding support to improve their heating systems, cut costs and support the environment.
Teignbridge Council has teamed up with SSE Energy Solutions Ltd to help private homeowners and tenants access grants through the Warm Home Fund to install first time gas central heating and connect their properties to the gas network.
They are also offering grants for people to install air source heat pumps which can be more cost effective than some heating systems.
Householders with electric storage heaters, plug-in electrical heaters, or with no existing heating are likely to benefit most from these grants. Householders with existing solid fuel back boilers can only apply for an air source heat pump grant.
There may also be grants available for householders looking to simply replace their existing boiler.
Executive Member for Housing Cllr Martin Wrigley said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people who need to improve their home heating systems to take advantage of the financial help that is available. However the number of grants is limited so I would urge people who think they could benefit to get in touch with the council as soon as possible.
“Installing new heating systems can not only save households significant sums but will also help reduce damaging emissions and so contribute to our battle against climate change.”
To qualify householders must be in receipt of certain benefits or have a household income of less than £30,000 (£25,000 for a sole occupant), after tax and national insurance. The energy performance certificate (EPC) for their property will need to be rated D,E,F,or G but if this is unknown SSE will be able to undertake one.
Householders can register an interest by searching for ‘warm home fund’ on Teignbridge.gov.uk.
Other schemes are also available that might benefit some homeowners or landowners and these can be viewed on Teignbridge.gov.uk under the housing financial support pages.
