2. Progress this year

We have made good progress this year despite global challenges.  These updates follow on from the previous Annual Monitoring report which was published in December 2022.

Local Plan

The Regulation 19 Local Plan 2020-2040 was published for consultation from 23 January to 16 March 2023. Responses made to the plan have been considered and an Addendum consultation on focused changes to the plan is proposed to take place in Autumn 2023. A revised Local Development Scheme has been prepared. 

Park revamp

In March the Figure of 8 Ashburton Road Play Park was opened, the refurbishment has been made possible by money provided by developers through their Section 106 contributions.

Ipplepen Neighbourhood Plan

The Ipplepen Neighbourhood Plan went to referendum in May and now been adopted, this will make the tenth adopted Neighbourhood Plan in Teignbridge.

New Supermarket approved in Bovey Tracey

A supermarket part of an allocated site was approved by planning committee members in June.  The supermarket will help reduce people in Bovey Tracey travelling to Kingsteignton and Newton Abbot to do their shopping as well as providing jobs for local people.

Health Hub approved in Teignmouth

A health hub was also approved by the planning committee in June.  The hub will provide a modern health care setting in the centre of Teignmouth, with good transport links and bringing more people into the town centre.

Marsh Barton Railway Station

Marsh Barton Railway Station, a £16 million project led by Devon County Council, and partially funded by Teignbridge District Council opened 4 July 2023.

Major investment plan for Broadmeadow Sports Centre

Eco friendly plans have been drawn up to modernise Broadmeadow Sports Centre in Teignmouth and to further reduce its carbon footprint.  The new roof was funded from Community Infrastructure Funding.

New Park in Matford formally opened

The unveiling of a sundial on Saturday marked the official opening of the picturesque 52-acre Ridgetop Park which is designed to help protect internationally important wildlife sites at Dawlish Warren, the Exe Estuary and the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths by providing appealing, alternative outdoor places to visit.

Dawlish link road and bridge started

Construction of the long-awaited £6.2million Dawlish link road and bridge has started and expected to be completed by Summer 2024.
