1. About the recycling sack trial
Many residents tell us that on windy days their plastic packaging is blown out of their recycling box.
To try to prevent this from happening we are testing recycling sacks that have a top flap with a Velcro fastening to keep the contents contained.
Who’s taking part in the trial?
Up to 1000 households on selected streets are trialling the new recycling sack. If your street is part of the trial you will have received a leaflet and sack.
What goes in the new recycling sack?
All the items that normally go in the black box will be put in the new recycling sack. This includes all plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, food and drinks cans and foil.
Will the black recycling box no longer be used?
Households taking part in the trial will use the sack provided rather than their black box for the duration of the trial. Please retain your black box until the results of the trial.
Will every household be given a new recycling sack after the trial?
Householders taking part in the trial will be asked for their feedback after three months. We will also monitor the effectiveness in reducing the amount of recycling blowing or overflowing from boxes. These results will help us assess whether the recycling sack will be rolled out to all households in Teignbridge.
I’m taking part in the trial and don’t have enough room in the new sack. Can I have an extra one?
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you need extra capacity.
I don’t fill the new recycling sack every week. Do I have to put it out every collection day?
No, just put it out for collection when it’s full.
My new recycling sack went missing after my collection. Can I have another one?
Please email email@example.com if your new sack has gone missing.
