Business waste and contacts

1. Waste from a business

Waste generated by any form of business, such as a shop, hotel or office is categorised as commercial waste and is not collected directly by the council although we can arrange this service.

It is often more beneficial however for businesses to go direct to a local waste services provider and avoid additional administration costs from the council.

Legislation stipulates that every business is also responsible for 'treating' at least one of its waste types before it is sent to landfill. Examples of 'treatment' include:

  • collecting waste streams separately to recycle one or more of the separated components
  • biological treatment such as composting or anaerobic digestion
  • thermal treatment such as incineration

You can also contact us by email at recycling@teignbridge.gov.uk if you would like more information or require the council to organise a commercial waste collection on your behalf.
